രാത്രിയും പകലും എന്നില്ലാതെ ഇങ്ങനെ പുറത്തിറങ്ങി നടക്കാനുള്ള സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം എവിടെ നിന്ന് കിട്ടിയെന്നു പലരും നെറ്റി ചുളിച്ച് ചോദിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. യാത്രകളില്‍ ഞാനെന്റെ ഡയറി കരുതാറുണ്ട്‌. കോളേജ് പഠനകാലത്തെ യാത്രകളില്‍ പലപ്പോഴും എനിക്ക് പ്രിയമുള്ളവരെ കാണുമ്പോള്‍ ഡയറി അവര്‍ക്ക് നേരെ നീട്ടി ‘എന്തെങ്കിലും എഴുതണം’ എന്ന് നിര്‍ബന്ധം പിടിക്കും. പല തരത്തിലുള്ള ആളുകള്‍… ഒന്ന് കണ്ട് ചിരിച്ചു മാത്രം കടന്നു പോകുന്നവര്‍… ഒരു ചിരി കൊണ്ടു ജീവിതത്തിലേക്ക് കയറി വരുന്നവര്‍… കണ്ടവരില്‍ കുറച്ചു പേരോട് മാത്രം അടുപ്പം
തോന്നി… അതില്‍ കുറച്ചു പേരോട് മാത്രം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചു. കുറച്ചു നിമിഷങ്ങളുടെ പരിചയം മാത്രം ഉള്ളവര്‍ പോലും വലിയ അടുപ്പക്കരായി തോന്നി. കൂടെ പഠിച്ചില്ലെങ്കിലും, ഒരേ നാട്ടുകാര്‍ അല്ലെങ്കിലും ഒരു ബന്ധം. ഇവരെയൊക്കെ എങ്ങനെ വിശ്വസിക്കും എന്നതിന് മറുപടിക്കായി പഴയ യാത്രകളില്‍ കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഡയറിയുടെ താളുകളിലേക്ക് നീളും. ഒരിക്കല്‍ ഇതേ ചോദ്യം ഞാനും ചോദിച്ചിരുന്നു. സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ മതിലുകള്‍ സൃഷ്ടിച്ച അതിര്‍ത്തികള്‍ക്കു അപ്പുറം യാത്ര ചെയ്തിരുന്ന ഒരു സുഹൃത്തിനോട്… അതിനു മറുപടിയായി അദ്ദേഹം എന്റെ ഡയറിയില്‍ എഴുതി, ‘സീനാ, ഞാന്‍ ഇപ്പോഴും മനുഷ്യന്റെ നന്മയില്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.’ പരിചിതമല്ലാത്ത വഴിയിലൂടെ യാത്രകള്‍ ചെയ്യേണ്ടി വരുമ്പോള്‍ ഈ വാചകം എന്റെ മനസ്സില്‍ കടന്നു വരാറുണ്ട്. പക്ഷെ ഒരു ആണ്‍കുട്ടിയെ സംബന്ധിച്ചിടത്തോളം ഇത്തരമൊരു ചിന്ത അവനുമായി ബന്ധപെട്ടു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന സമൂഹത്തിനോട് പങ്കു വക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അവനു കിട്ടുന്ന സ്വീകാര്യതയല്ല ഒരു പെണ്‍കുട്ടി എന്ന നിലയില്‍ എനിക്ക് കിട്ടിയിട്ടുള്ളത്. അങ്ങനെ ഒരു വിശ്വാസം പോലും കൊണ്ടു നടക്കാന്‍ ഒരു പെണ്‍കുട്ടി എന്ന നിലയില്‍ ഞാന്‍ ഭയപ്പെടണം. കാരണം ‘നഷ്ടപ്പെടാന്‍’ ഉള്ളത് പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമാണല്ലോ!
