“കോളനിവാസികള്‍ ന്യൂനപക്ഷങ്ങള്‍ ദരിദ്രര്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ എന്നും വരേണ്യ സൌന്ദര്യത്തിന്റെ സാമാന്യ വ്യവഹാരങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് പുറത്തായിരുന്നു. എല്ലാ ഗുണ്ടകളും കീഴ്ജാതിക്കാരോ കറുത്തവരോ വിരൂപരോ ആകുന്ന പൊതു സൌന്ദര്യബോധം തന്നെയാണ് അവിടെയും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചത്. വെളുത്ത നായകനെതിരെ കറുത്ത വില്ലന്‍ എന്നതുപോലെ സുന്ദരമായ നഗരത്തിനെതിരെ അസുന്ദരമായ കോളനികള്‍ സിനിമയില്‍ നിരന്തരം ആവര്‍ത്തിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. പാളയം, ബീമാപള്ളി, ബംഗ്ളാദേശ് കോളനി, ചാല മാര്‍ക്കറ്റ് തുടങ്ങി കേരളത്തിലെ ചില പ്രദേശങ്ങള്‍ ഇങ്ങനെ ഗുണ്ടകളുടെയും വില്ലന്‍മാരുടെയും ക്വട്ടേഷന്‍ സംഘങ്ങളുടെയും വളര്‍ത്തു കേന്ദ്രമായി മുദ്രകുത്തപ്പെട്ടു. അവിടെനിന്ന് തീവ്രവാദികളുണ്ടാകുന്നുണ്ടെന്നും ഭീകരവാദികള്‍ക്ക് അവിടെ ഒളിത്താവളങ്ങളുണ്ടെന്നും വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. സ്വാഭാവികമായും ആ ചാപ്പ പതിച്ചത് ന്യൂനപക്ഷങ്ങളുടെയും കീഴാളവിഭാഗത്തിന്റെയും മുതുകുകളിലാണ്. “

ഇങ്ങനെ നിര്‍മിച്ചുവച്ച തോന്നലാണ്. ആ തോന്നലിനെ മാത്രം അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി എത്ര തിരക്കഥകളാണ് മലയാളത്തില്‍ എടുക്കപ്പെട്ടത്. സിനിമ കാണുന്നവര്‍ ഒന്നും വെറുതെ കാണുന്നില്ല എന്ന യാഥാര്‍ഥ്യം വലുതാണ്. അതിനാല്‍ ഇതുപോലുള്ള ചാപ്പക്കുത്തലുകളെ തുറന്നുകാണിക്കുന്ന സമാരംഭങ്ങള്‍ പ്രശംസിക്കപ്പെടേണ്ടതുതന്നെ.
