Our southern Kerala Muslim identity were subdued somewhere in Mappila, Malabar hegemonic Islamic narrations. Our Islam is Just as outcasted and 'othered' one. Seems it comes from a sense of we are first comers to Islam and puritanism. This hegemonic narration includes the very behavioural pattern, understanding of jurisprudence and texts, our culture, non linear historical dimensions other than from Middle East, absence of so called Islamic institutions, poor representation of our Ulema in learned bodies and many more. So, this big void of under representation and history to be underlined.
